I was never able to sit still when I was a kid. As an adult, I’ve learned many lessons from my time playing all sorts of sports, practicing acrobatics, refining dance techniques, and training the systems in my body that support it all but I still have not managed to find a way to sit still!
My background is mainly in martial arts - starting in Tae Kwon Do, but growing to cover the full range of MMA, practical self-defense, parkour, and even choreographed stunt fighting.
Most recently, I have focused on aerial performance arts - I find the combination of intense strength and flexibility requirements incredibly challenging and rewarding, and the element of musicality is just plain fun!
My mother used to tell my brothers and me, “Everything in moderation,” as she added slightly more vegetables to our dinners and slightly less ice cream to our desserts than we wanted. Wisdom like this, along with a lifelong passion for movement arts, allowed me to live an athletic life for many years without thinking much about it.
However, as the realities of adult life and a career set in, I realized that I was extremely lucky to have the habits and body that I did, and that I valued them more with each passing day. I studied nutrition, functional strength, and mobility, and learned how to define and achieve my own fitness goals.
At the same time, I grew frustrated with the public’s shifting views on fitness, health, and exercise. The influencers promoting fad diets or pyramid schemes, and the podcasters framing them as ”genetically gifted,” or “natural-born athletes” grated on my nerves.
When I began to hear those misguided ideas come up in conversations with my friends and loved ones, I reached a turning point. I set out to demonstrate that anyone can learn to love their body and live a healthy, active life through consistent, earnest effort - whether they work a full-time desk job, stand through long night shifts at a warehouse, or manage a busy household.
It is my goal to still be pushing weights in the gym at 90+ years old, and still be having fun doing it! There is great potential within us all, and I’d love to help you unlock it.
